Columbus, Ohio August 20, 2002 – Mad Hops, ltd. today
announced that Pres./CEO Herb Baldwin, Jr., 32, has been appointed to
the American Diabetes Association (A.D.A.) Leadership Council as
Chairman of its annual "Tour de Cure" event. Tour de Cure – the
association’s annual bicycle riding fundraising event takes place in
early June and had about 200 riders this year. In order to take part,
each rider pays a registration fee and strives to raise a minimum of
$200. Baldwin’s role as Chairman will be to assist the ADA Tour
Coordinator in recruiting new riders; attend the committee meetings
and the Team Captain luncheon. Of course, Baldwin will also be at the
event to cut the ribbon and say a few words.
"I think this is an exciting opportunity for Mad Hops, ltd. to be
involved with," said Baldwin. "I feel blessed and honored to lend
whatever I can to further the cause of the American Diabetes
Association in its fight against this life-changing disease."
Council members are also committed to the American Diabetes
Association’s mission: "to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve
the lives of all people affected by diabetes". That mission is
accomplished through the Association’s Research, Advocacy, and
Information activities. Council members focus on the 3 R’s: Raising
dollars, Recruiting volunteers, and Reaching people. The
4th R – Relationship building – is the foundation of all
activities.
The term of service is a minimum of one year and members are
re-appointed annually.
The Council, itself, will only meet four times a year but ADA
Executive Director, Kathleen Phillips, is looking for those people to
be passionate about ADA so that it can grow its events and increase
its visibility.
"I think Herb will be a real asset to the group," said Phillips.
His leadership, enthusiasm and commitment will do much to move our
organization forward. I am delighted that Herb has accepted our
invitation to join our Council."
In May of this year, Baldwin’s company, Mad Hops, ltd. hosted its
1st annual event – a 5-on-5 Basketball Tournament to raise
awareness of the threat of diabetes. The "BigDawg" Basketball
tournament also raised money for diabetes research (20% of event
proceeds) and ADA assisted in giving free diabetic screenings to
patrons in attendance.
